Becoming a Master

On January 25, 2011, I wrote a post about becoming an accidental expert. I wrote it more from a theoretical perspective. I didn’t really think I was becoming an accidental expert in complacency and ignorance like the people I was hoping to reach. I did exercised on occasion. Hell, I even did yoga every once in a while. The truth is, I get sucked back into the “normal society” just as easy as everyone else. Continue reading

Cutting the junk out of your life

Foremost, this post was inspired by a conversation I had with my friend and mentor Coach Be coupled with watching the “Marley documentary”. Coach Be and I were talking about his passion for helping people eat better (these days getting people to do what is in their best long term interest is a hard sell.) A few hours later I happened upon Marley, an amazing and inspirational documentary about the most famous human being… ever. I asked myself, “What would Marley do? Continue reading

Fat, broke, lonely, and stupid

Billions of dollars are spent each year on products and services promising to make you fit, rich, loved and/or smart. Most of these products and services are merely schemes to make you appear “better” but do not even attempt to make you well. The truth is… all of the books, pills, blenders, instructional videos, online courses, and dating websites in the world are useless unless you change your attitude and actions. Continue reading

Do you need a fresh start or to find the “real” you?

In March 2010, I moved to Washington D.C.. In my mind it was going to be a fresh start in a new “movers and shakers” city, which was closer to my long-time friends and family. Opportunity Cost

Earlier this year, I was tasked with co-mentoring a high school student. To be honest, I didn’t want to do it. The thought of being a direct influence on a young man’s life was too much responsibility at a time when my own life was in turmoil. As a compromise, I guided him to a few of the books which had guided me; The Alchemist, Art of War, and 48 Laws of Power. I told him, After reading these three books, you will be able to think through any situation that life throws at you.” And so his journey began… Continue reading

Dwelling on dwelling

Imagine you are burdened with carrying a 50 pound awkwardly shaped steel box everywhere you went. Even while you slept, you were forced to lay this uncomfortable hunk of metal on your chest. With every movement you make, this object irritates your skin and drains your muscles. How relieved would you be if one day you were freed from this terrible task? Many of us carry similar mental burdens with the ability to free ourselves without even realizing it. Continue reading

Are you microwaving your life?

Get Rich Quick! Get Slim Fast! Find Love Now! It seems as though patience, attention to detail and dedication to excellence have become dead virtues in today’s society. We want it all; pre-packaged and ready now. Is this microwave mentality creating the same outcome as microwaved food… appetizing superficially but unappealing at its core? Continue reading
